lyrics
Remember when I whispered in your ear
with whiskey on my breath?
A cottonmouth grew out your hair and bit me on the lip.
That fine day, when I was still hooked on depression.
My life back home was to hard to mention.
I was riding around looking for a place to be.
Lost out here in God's country.
Get off late at night and all I think is you.
Waiting up all night, to see the sun burst
in my room.
Memories grow old with their a long descension.
I was always the one with all the cruel intentions.
I was riding around looking for a time to leave,
Garbed up, dolled up and ready to flee. Like a gold lipped saint waiting on his christening.
I ain't ever seen a pretty thing
Until I met you.
Cigarettes packed down in the Crown Vic.
Your puppy eyes stare me down with a cow lick.
In this town, honey even the trees lean with a grudge.
In the bar room you told me you had enough.
You were, sick and tired of everything.
Looking for something other than God's country.
Where'd you go my love?
Come find me, cause I need a break
Your sisters on the phone
told me you made your escape
That you're out here wandering
in the wild world again
and you can't stand it.
Riding in a greyhound trying to find love
choking down a bottle and high on rocks,
You asked Lazarath, baby have you had enough?
I tell her no, honey I can still smell my own blood.
Riding around looking for a place to be
Looking for something other than God's country
Like a ghost in the hillock whispering.
I ain't ever seen a pretty thing
Until I met you.
A very clever songwriter and an album that bears many, many repeat listens. Worth the price for the Little Feat reference (in Tehachapi) alone, but it's her way with an image that sticks longest. "You left the building in a flurry / Had your boots on in the house." Caoimhín
Some catchy tracks on here, and my guy is not afraid to rip a guitar solo. Sounds like Daniel Johnston country at times, and the album cover looks like a hip-hop record. Cidimon Arustavi
A lot of great indie albums came out last week, and this is the standout. This is coming from a huge fan of Waxahachie who put out a brilliant new album. Bite Down has everything: great music, great lyrics and a down to earth vibe. I can't stop listening to this wonderful piece of music. Joe Snyder
